Racine creates fictional suburbs. He says, “Drawn freehand directly on the computer and printed with an inkjet printer,  my drawings do not contain any photographs or scanned material.” In a larger sense, he sees them as “a comment on the fears as well as the dreams expressed in suburban culture”–and even a trip into the realm of “science fiction.” But often enough they seem entirely plausible, capturing that odd mix of marketing “whimsy” and dreary impracticality that characterize so many suburban housing developments.
